"Mimosa and Anemone" from the Lunéville Kiln – Bringing the Spring of Southern France: Introducing a Rare Mendiant Dish

Today, we're delighted to present a breathtakingly beautiful antique plate from the esteemed French kiln, K&G Luneville.

This is from the "Mimosa" series, crafted between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Accompanying the vibrant yellow mimosa are delicate pink anemones, signaling the arrival of spring.

■ The Story Behind the Special "Mendiant" Form

This distinctive shape with three compartments is known in French as "Mendiant."

Originally, "mendiant" means "beggar" or "mendicant friar." It refers to the four major mendicant orders in old France (Franciscans, Dominicans, Carmelites, and Augustinians) who embraced a life of poverty and embodied a spirit of compassion.

The colors of their monastic robes resembled the colors of four dried fruits and nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, figs, and raisins), leading to the special dishes used to serve these items being called "mendiant."

Today, it's also a popular name for chocolate treats adorned with nuts, but encountering the traditional dish itself is a rare occurrence, even in the world of antiques.

■ A Miraculous Condition, Over 100 Years Old

At the center is a handle shaped like a gnarled tree branch. Its highly artistic form strongly reflects the characteristics of Art Nouveau, evoking the vitality of plants.

Particularly noteworthy is its superb state of preservation. Despite being pottery over 100 years old, it is an exquisite piece with almost no crazing (fine cracks on the surface) and no chips or cracks.

Antiques are a unique encounter. It is extremely rare for a mendiant dish from the popular mimosa series, in such remarkable condition, to appear on the market, making it a highly prized item among collectors.

■ Bring a French Garden into Your Life

Whether for serving nuts or small sweets at the table, as a tray for your favorite accessories, or as a centerpiece in a cabinet.

Just having this plate there creates the illusion that the warm sunshine of Southern France is streaming into the room.

A miracle that has endured through the years, now here. Why not add this mimosa and anemone to the new chapter of your life?
