Handling Antique and Vintage Tableware

Care Instructions

・For items with cracks, moisture and oil can seep into the cracks and cause discoloration.

Therefore, please wipe with a soft towel. It is also possible to prevent seepage by filling in gaps with Kintsugi or similar methods.

・When washing, gently wash with a neutral detergent (dish soap) and lukewarm water.

Be careful as items are sensitive to extreme temperature differences. Washing with hot water or cold water can cause sudden crazing

 to appear or spread.

・After washing, do not leave wet for long periods; wipe immediately.

*Do not use a dishwasher, as it may cause damage.

About Antique and Vintage Items

At our store, items manufactured over 100 years ago are labeled as "antique," and items less than 100 years old are labeled as "vintage." Even among items over 100 years old, some appear as if they've time-slipped from when they were made, without chips, stains, or crazing. Others are hardworking antiques that have blended into daily life, bearing scars, stains, crazing, or cracks from sharing life with people.

A major charm of antiques and vintage items is how their character can vary greatly depending on their usage and the local climate, even for the same product.

Crazing is a phenomenon often seen in antique tableware. It is susceptible to temperature changes and is common in ceramics made in kilns of the past, where temperature control was less stable than it is today.

Crazing refers to cracks in the glaze, which is like a glass coating on the surface, and is different from a crack in the item itself. The actual dish itself is not cracked. Some crazing is so beautiful it's captivating, and many people actively seek out tableware with crazing.

The antique and vintage items that remain today have all lived alongside people in their daily lives, never being treated poorly or discarded. Passed down through caring and gentle hands, these antique and vintage pieces have traveled long distances and crossed oceans to reach Roen Interior, filling us with respect and affection.

We strive to convey the unique character, atmosphere, and condition, including chips, cracks, and crazing, of each item to you through detailed descriptions and photographs in the product description. We hope you will review the product description carefully.

Furthermore, these items are imported from France as decorative pieces. Please understand that any use for purposes other than decoration is at the customer's own discretion.

If you wish to know more about the item's atmosphere or condition, please feel free to contact us.
