Enter the Humorous World of Fables: Vintage Plates by Sarreguemines
Today, we've added a series of vintage plates from the Sarreguemines factory, "La Fontaine's Fables."
Authored by the 17th-century French poet Jean de La Fontaine, "Fables" consists of stories featuring animals that convey truths and lessons about human society. The plates we are introducing are a special series that adds modern, playful humor to this classic world.
Depicted are familiar fables such as "The Fox and the Stork," "The Lion and the Mouse," and "The Crow and the Fox." However, these are not just ordinary scenes from the stories.
For example, in "The Crow and the Fox," the supposedly cunning fox is knocked out by cheese dropped by the crow. In "The Fox and the Stork," where revenge should be sought, the fox cleverly handles the situation using a straw. And in "The Wolf and the Lamb," where the power dynamics should be clear, the lamb is hiding a club, adding a playful twist that upends the stories' endings.
While retaining La Fontaine's profound lessons, the unique humor and charm of these plates will delight anyone who sees them. They are perfect as dessert plates, but also lovely to display on a wall or stand as interior decor.
We invite you to enjoy this unique collection firsthand.
