Antique Sauce Boat U&C Sarreguemines Geranium
This is an antique U&C Sarreguemines Geranium sauce boat.
Its cute gondola-like shape is particularly eye-catching.
It is from a series produced by Utzschneider Pottery in Sarreguemines in the 1890s.
In France, bright red and pink geraniums have long been seen on windowsills and in potted plants. Geraniums, popular for their refreshing scent, are often placed by windows due to their insect repellent properties.
Geraniums are very familiar to French people. At the end of their slender, delicate stems, they bear many small, cute star-shaped flowers. Their lovely appearance is one of the reasons they are so adored.
It's also lovely to gently place flowers along the spout, tipping it to the side as if laying them down. Even a single flower looks elegant.
There is fine crazing and discoloration overall. There is a chip of about 1mm on the back of the saucer,
but it is not noticeable.
