Antique Chocolate Cup and Saucer - U&C Sarreguemines Cluny
This is an antique chocolate cup and saucer from the U&C Sarreguemines factory, Cluny series.
A vessel for enjoying "chocolat (chocolate)," which was popular among aristocrats and the bourgeoisie from the 19th century to the early 20th century.
It is characterized by being a size larger than a regular teacup, with a generous feel.
A deep indigo blue gradation with a "yellow" accent applied by hand by an artisan.
This contrast adds a modern elegance to the classic arabesque pattern.
Peeking into the cup, you'll find a small floral pattern at the bottom, matching the saucer.
Its appearance as you drink makes tea time even more precious.
In addition, the delicate crazing spreading throughout the inside of the cup and the soft antique color that has soaked in over many years,
can be enjoyed as a "patina" unique to antiques that new items can never offer.
It's lovely to display it as is, or use it as a bowl for arranging flowers.
Condition: Overall, there is fine crazing characteristic of antiques, and age-related discoloration inside the cup.
There are no chips or cracks, and it is in good condition. However, this is an item we wish to pass on to someone who appreciates this "time-worn texture" as the true charm of an antique.
Size:
Cup: Diameter 12.5cm x 15.5cm including handle x Height 6.7cm
Saucer: Diameter approx. 19cm x Height approx. 2.2cm
Era: Late 19th century to early 20th century
