Antique Jug, English Kiln (William Brownfield), DONATELLO
This is an antique jug from the William Brownfield pottery, part of the DONATELLO series.
Manufactured around 1861 by the William Brownfield pottery in England, this is a highly valuable antique jug.
This jug belongs to the "DONATELLO" series, characterized by its three-dimensional embossed decoration.
Classical reliefs reminiscent of Renaissance sculpture adorn the entire vessel.
Of particular note is the substantial pewter (tin alloy) lid. This lid was made by James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield, famous for their silverware, making this an extremely distinguished piece born from the collaboration of a leading British pottery manufacturer and a metalworking manufacturer of that era.
The subdued silver luster of the aged pewter harmonizes beautifully with the soft hues of the ceramic, strongly evoking the grand and elegant atmosphere of the Victorian era.
