Antique Dessert Plate, U&C Sarreguemines, Géranium B
This is an antique dessert plate from the U&C Sarreguemines factory, part of the Geranium series.
The design, with geraniums lining the entire rim of the plate, has a luxurious look, like a floral wreath. One can almost sense the green, floral fragrance.
This series was produced at the Utzschneider pottery in Sarreguemines in the 1890s.
In France, bright and lovely red or pink geraniums have long been seen on windowsills and in potted plants. Geraniums, popular for their refreshing scent, are also known for their insect-repelling properties, which is why they have often been displayed by windows since ancient times.
Geraniums are very familiar to the French. Many small, cute star-shaped flowers bloom at the end of their slender, delicate stems. Their charming appearance is another reason why people love them.
