Antique Oval Platter Longwy Muguet (Lily of the Valley)
This is an antique oval platter from the Longwy (ロンウイ) Muguet (ミュゲ: Lily of the Valley) series.
The lily of the valley is also known as "Kimikagesou" (君影草), which evokes the image of a beautiful and modest woman who thinks of her loved one and quietly watches over them from the shadows.
The lily of the valley, with its simple and understated beauty, has long been famous in France as a beloved flower, known as "the flower that brings happiness and brings happiness again." May 1st is "fête du muguet", a day to give lilies of the valley to loved ones. Also, because it resembles a veiled bride, it is a flower often given at weddings.
The pattern evokes the modest beauty of the lily of the valley. The deep greenish-blue and white earthenware further enhance its elegance. Between the patterns, small floral reliefs are applied, adding a soft, lace-like impression, making it a very charming series.
