Antique plate Barluet&Cie Creil Montereau Service Rousseau A
This antique plate is from the Creil & Montereau factory, part of the Service Rousseau series.
Service Rousseau means "Rousseau's dinnerware set."
It refers to a dinnerware set created at the Creil & Montereau factory, for which Mr. Rousseau, who ran a tableware store, commissioned Mr. Braquemond to design the patterns.
The design was inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
This series has been exhibited in various locations around the world, including the Musée d'Orsay, and is still recognized today as highly valuable tableware.
Two types were produced: one with a blue brushstroke pattern on the rim of the plate, and one with a relief on the rim.
The series we are introducing here is called "a crêtes" (meaning "with crests") Service Rousseau, which features a relief on the rim, and was produced from 1866 to 1938.
Since the backstamp reads B&C, it can be determined that it was produced during the Barluet era, between 1876 and 1884.
Condition: No signs of use and in very good condition. There is some unevenness in the glaze from manufacturing.
Size: Diameter 25.2cm, Height 2.5cm
