Antique Plate Barluet&Cie Creil Montereau Service Rousseau B
Antique plate from the Creil & Montereau factory, Service Rousseau series.
Service Rousseau means "Rousseau's dinnerware set."
It refers to a dinnerware set created at the Creil & Montereau factory, with designs commissioned by Mr. Rousseau, who ran a tableware shop, from Mr. Bracquemond. The design was inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
This series is exhibited worldwide, including at the Musée d'Orsay, and is still widely recognized as highly valuable tableware.
Two types were produced: one with a blue brushstroke pattern on the rim of the plate, and one with a relief on the rim.
The series we are introducing here is the Service Rousseau known as "à crêtes," which has a relief on the rim and was produced from 1866 to 1938.
The backstamp reads "E. Leveillé/74, bld Haussmann, Paris/Rousseau," indicating the shop's address, and thus can be dated to between 1886 and 1890.
Condition: There is a chip on the rim, but it is in very good condition with no signs of use.
Size: Diameter 25.5cm, Height 2cm
Period: 1886-1890
