This is an antique plate from the Onnaing kiln's Eglantines series.

Eglantines refers to wild roses.
The dynamically depicted bouquets and delicate decorative borders beautifully adorn the plate.

The Onnaing kiln was located in Onnaing, a town in northern France, close to Belgium. It was particularly famous for its barbotine ware and existed from 1821 to 1938.

This particular series does not have the usual backstamp. Furthermore, instead of "Terre de fer" (earthenware), it is marked "Ivoire" (ivory), leading us to believe it was a special edition. (Ivoire means ivory. This likely indicates that the clay used was close to a cream color.)

The creamy plates, with their added coloring and crazing, have a wonderful antique charm.

Condition: There is crazing throughout and some discoloration, but no chips or cracks, making it in good condition.
Size: Approximately 22.5cm diameter x 3cm
Era: Believed to be late 19th century.
