Antique plate Onan Eglantines G
This is an antique plate from the Onnaing Pottery, Eglantines series.
"Eglantines" refers to wild roses.
The dynamically painted bouquets and delicate rim decorations beautifully adorn the plate.
The Onnaing Pottery was located in the town of Onnaing in northern France, near Belgium. It was particularly famous for its barbotine ware and existed from 1821 to 1938.
This particular series does not have the usual backstamp. Also, instead of the "Terre de fer" (earthenware) mark, it has "Ivoire" (ivory), leading us to believe it was a special edition. ("Ivoire" means ivory, suggesting that an ivory-colored clay was used.)
The cream-colored plate, with its added coloring and crazing, has a wonderful antique atmosphere.
Condition: There is crazing spread across the entire surface and discoloration, but it is in good condition with no chips or cracks.
Size: Approximately 22.5cm diameter x 3cm
Era: Believed to be late 19th century.
