How to use a water butter dish

This butter dish is a type called a "water butter dish" (or butter bell),
It incorporates ingenious methods for preserving butter in an era before refrigerators.

First, pour cold water into the base of the dish.
Pack butter, returned to room temperature, into the recess on the inside of the lid.
Place the lid over the base.

This seals the water, preventing exposure to outside air and making the butter less prone to spoilage. Additionally, the cold water keeps the butter moderately cool, maintaining a spreadable softness at all times.

Condition: Craquelure is present, but there are no chips or cracks, and it is in excellent condition.

Size (maximum): Approximately 12cm diameter x 12cm height
Period: Late 19th century to early 20th century
