From the late 19th to the early 20th century, this was a tableware specifically for oil sardines.
With a sardine-shaped handle, it's a playful and charming piece.
This item was made by Bétoule et Legrand in the early 20th century.
Bétoule et Legrand produced porcelain tableware from 1870 to 1949, but from 1919, they began manufacturing electrical switches using porcelain. Subsequently, electrical products became their main focus, and they became LEGRAND & Co, a well-known electrical product manufacturer in France.
The tableware logo features the words "Limoges" and "FRANCE" within two crescent moons, with a star in between.
