Vintage Deep Plate, Digoin & Sarreguemines Messidor A

This is a vintage deep plate from the Digoin & Sarreguemines pottery, part of the Messidor series.

Messidor is the name of a month in the French Republican Calendar, meaning "harvest month," and refers to the season of abundance (mid-June to mid-July in the current calendar).

Fresh early summer flora are depicted vividly on the bright, glossy ceramic surface, as if breathing.
Warm, golden ears of wheat, large vibrant pink flowers, and deep, clear blue cornflowers.

It is a luxurious piece that combines the soft texture of stenciling with the exquisite hand-painting of artisans.
The delicate brushstrokes, color gradations, and subtle fading on each plate truly embody the artisan's touch, making no two pieces exactly alike.

The flowers depicted gracefully along the rim are like a beautiful "floral wreath" that never fades.
The balance between the bold negative space on the right half and the single blue line that ties the whole piece together is very modern, and simply placing it on the table brightens the space.
