Vintage Oval Plate, Digoin & Sarreguemines, Agreste
This is a vintage oval platter from the Digoin & Sarreguemines pottery, part of their Agreste series.
In French, "Agreste" means rustic or simple and unsophisticated, something from the countryside.
The bouquets painted on the plate, featuring poppies, campanulas, thistles, and daisies, are all plants commonly seen in the French countryside.
Their unpretentious, rustic beauty adorns the floral-rimmed plate.
The red line around the rim subtly tightens the space and enhances its elegance.
Perhaps part of its popularity comes from the maker's playful spirit, evident in the varying flowers that decorate the rim on different plates.
