Vintage Deep Plate, Sarreguemines, Messidor B
This is a vintage deep dish from the Salins Messidor series.
Produced between 1950 and 1960, this series is characterized by its charming hand-painted, gentle aesthetic.
The rim is rhythmically soft, like flower petals, and accentuated by a deep crimson border that creates an appropriate sense of tension.
Ears of wheat and flowers are vividly depicted, conveying the joy of harvest.
The deep, purplish-red color is subdued and mature, so despite the large pattern, it doesn't overpower and harmonizes beautifully.
It's a wonderful dish that you'll want to display like a painting.
The stamp on the back reads "E.C.", which is thought to be an abbreviation for Edouard Charbonnier. Edouard Charbonnier was the son of Robert Charbonnier of the Longchamp Pottery and served as president of Salins Pottery from 1912 to 1968.
There is fine crazing throughout. It is in very good condition with little signs of use.
