Dreams of Clay
Rêves D'argile
Rêves D'argile is created by Monique Mongayard (hereinafter referred to as Monique), a potter living in Provence, Southern France.
She qualified as a potter in 1995 and has been dedicated to pottery ever since. Monique loves touching clay, and is particularly fond of black clay. She draws inspiration from her home garden plants, nature, and antique finds, incorporating them into her works. She always carries a small notebook and never forgets to jot down notes when she finds beautiful objects or things that could be incorporated into her work. After returning home, she heads to her atelier and repeatedly tries different molds.
The charm of Rêves D'argile lies in the delicate and graceful form of the pottery, adorned with a moist and beautiful white glaze. Monique's particular focus is on the thinness of the pottery. Black clay has the property of retaining water and being difficult to dry, so it takes a lot of time and effort to apply the glaze. The thinner the pottery, the more prone it is to warping or cracking during the drying process. Even if she makes ten pieces, only about three will be satisfactory. She says that even after years of making pottery, she still struggles with seasonal and humidity differences.
Finally, the white glaze is applied and the pieces are put into the kiln. This process can be repeated up to four times to achieve the desired color and finish. Through Monique's dedication and love for her work, delicate, beautiful white pottery is born.
Since all Rêves D'argile pieces are handcrafted by Monique, mass production is not possible. However, each piece is imbued with tenderness and warmth, and created with time and care. I am also captivated by the beautiful Rêves D'argile, which makes you want to keep using it.
